Serie A leaders Juventus eked out a 1-0 victory away against US Città di Palermo to increase their cushion at the Serie A summit to four points, while FC Internazionale Milano overcame SSC Napoli 2-1 to leapfrog Walter Mazzarri's men into second.
The deadlock was not broken at the Stadio Renzo Barbera until shortly after half-time, when marauding Juve wing-back Stephan Lichtsteiner latched onto Mirko Vučinić's delightful back-heel and gave Samir Ujkani no chance with his finish. The Rosanero could not recover and had Michel Morganella dismissed with 15 minutes left after receiving two bookings in quick succession.
The Bianconeri are now four points ahead of Inter, who climbed up to second with a 2-1 defeat of Napoli at San Siro. Freddy Guarín provided the ideal start and Diego Milito doubled the hosts' lead before the break, rendering Edinson Cavani's 19th goal in all competitions this term a mere consolation.
Elsewhere, Robinho's fine finish and starlet Stephan El Shaarawy's 13th Serie A goal helped AC Milan maintain their purple patch, as the Rossoneri beat Torino FC 4-2 for a third straight league win.
Calcio Catania climbed to eighth – a place behind Milan – by prevailing 3-1 at bottom club AC Siena, Pescara Calcio moved above Genoa CFC into 18th with a 2-0 defeat of the Sampdoria side, and AC Chievo Verona won 2-0 at Cagliari Calcio.
