Juventus hit four to beat Lazio in Super Cup

Three goals in four second-half minutes helped Juventus to a 4-0 Italian Super Cup victory against SS Lazio in Rome, while four Serie A sides are already out of the Coppa Italia.

A first-half goal by substitute Paul Pogba and three in a four-minute spell early in the second period gave Juventus a 4-0 Italian Super Cup victory against SS Lazio.

The capital club were playing on home soil but found themselves comprehensively beaten by the Serie A champions. It represented Juve's second straight Super Cup triumph and sixth in total, equalling AC Milan's record.

The Bianconeri took the lead with a well-worked free-kick in the 23rd minute after Pogba had replaced the injured Claudio Marchisio. With Lazio expecting a trademark effort by Andrea Pirlo, he instead rolled the ball towards Stephan Lichtsteiner, whose cross was deflected into the path of Pogba, with the French midfielder beating Federico Marchetti with a precise left-footed shot.

Lazio were on the front foot for the rest of the half but their only real chance came via a long-range shot by Stefan Radu that forced Gianluigi Buffon into a superb fingertip save.

After the break, however, Antonio Conte's team stepped up a gear and added three more goals in quick succession to kill the game. Lichtsteiner, a former Lazio player, proved the inspiration, starting on 52 minutes when he sprinted onto a pass by Arturo Vidal and found Giorgio Chiellini for an easy finish.

Two minutes later the Swiss international cut in from the right and beat Marchetti with the outside of his right foot after a one-two with Mirko Vučinić. It was soon four as Pogba sent a low cross in for Carlos Tévez to fire in at the near post.

Meanwhile, 12 Serie A clubs entered the Coppa Italia in the third round this weekend. On Sunday, FC Internazionale Milano won 4-0 against AS Cittadella and Atalanta BC beat AS Bari 3-0. Newly-promoted AS Livorno Calcio lost 1-0 at home to AC Siena 24 hours earlier and another side relegated last season, Pescara Calcio, triumphed 2-1 at Torino FC, Genoa CFC lost on penalties at Spezia Calcio while Cagliari Calcio were stunned 2-1 after extra time by third-tier visitors Frosinone Calcio.

Hellas Verona FC, AC Chievo Verona, Bologna FC, UC Sampdoria, US Sassuolo Calcio and Parma FC all won. The fourth round takes place in the first week of December and last season's Serie A top eight enter in the fifth round in January.
