Torino halt Roma's run, Inter cruise to victory

AS Roma's quest for an 11th consecutive opening win was thwarted in a 1-1 draw at Torino FC, after FC Internazionale Milano moved back into fourth by seeing off Udinese Calcio 3-0.

AS Roma's hopes of posting an 11th successive win at the start of the Serie A season were thwarted in a 1-1 draw at Torino FC, on a day when FC Internazionale Milano beat Udinese Calcio 3-0 and Hellas Verona FC continued their impressive start.

Kevin Strootman found the net for Roma on 28 minutes following a corner, but the hosts responded just after the hour mark. Riccardo Meggiorini dispossessed Medhi Benatia and served up a cross for former Giallorossi winger Alessio Cerci to tap in, his goal the first Roma had conceded in 743 minutes of football. Rudi Garcia's charges proved unable to register again, meaning they now lie three points clear of SSC Napoli and Juventus at the top.

As for Inter, they returned to fourth spot after taking a 25th-minute lead at the Stadio Friuli courtesy of Rodrigo Palacio's seventh goal of the season. Defender Andrea Ranocchia consolidated the visitors' advantage soon after and Ricardo Álvarez rounded off the scoring in added time. Level on points, meanwhile, Verona overcame Cagliari Calcio 2-1 thanks to strikes in either half from Luca Toni and Boško Janković.

Elsewhere, SS Lazio succumbed 2-0 at home to Genoa CFC, while Domenico Berardi hit a hat-trick as US Sassuolo Calcio came from behind to edge UC Sampdoria – who had Andrea Costa sent off – 4-3. In the early kick-off, AS Livorno Calcio engineered a 1-0 win against ten-man Atalanta BC, Paulo Sergio Betanin scoring the decisive goal after 11 minutes.
