Matri fires Fiorentina to victory, Napoli frustrated

A pair of debut goals from Alessandro Matri helped ACF Fiorentina beat Calcio Catania 3-0 and move within three points of SSC Napoli, who were stung at the death by Bologna FC.

ACF Fiorentina swept aside Calcio Catania 3-0 to trim the gap on SSC Napoli to three points, with their third-placed rivals held 2-2 at Bologna FC.

Alessandro Matri, who joined the Viola on loan from AC Milan on Wednesday, made an immediate impact by scoring twice after Matías Fernández's 25-minute opener.

As for Napoli, they found themselves in a commanding position after Gonzalo Higuaín and José Callejón had wiped out Rolando Bianchi's effort and Panagiotis Kone had been dismissed for Bologna. However, Bianchi struck again at the death to deny the visitors a third straight win.

In the early kick-off, SS Lazio posted a dramatic 3-2 comeback victory against Udinese Calcio, despite losing Ogenyi Onazi to a red card. Trailing with eight minutes remaining, the visitors levelled courtesy of Andrea Lazzari's own goal before Hernanes completed the turnaround in the final minute.

Meanwhile, FC Internazionale Milano succumbed 1-0 at Genoa CFC, former AC Milan full-back Luca Antonelli scoring the winner, and Atalanta BC prevailed by the same scoreline at home to ten-man Cagliari Calcio. Elsewhere, Torino FC dispatched US Sassuolo Calcio 2-0 and Parma FC came from behind to edge AC Chievo Verona 2-1.

In the late kick-off, Clarence Seedorf's first match in charge of AC Milan produced a 1-0 home success against Hellas Verona FC, Mario Balotelli making the difference from the penalty spot on 82 minutes.
