AS Roma coasted to a routine 2-0 victory against AC Chievo Verona, forging a six-point cushion in second place and consigning the relegation-threatened Flying Donkeys to back-to-back defeats.
Two first-half strikes did the damage. Giallorossi forward Gervinho broke the deadlock on 17 minutes, pouncing on Bostjan Cesar's header back to goalkeeper Michael Agazzi and coolly slotting in. Four minutes before half-time Mattia Destro doubled the lead, darting between the centre-backs to meet Taddei's terrific, dissecting through ball and finishing neatly to Agazzi's left.
The goalkeeper kept Roma at bay with several key stops after half-time, and at the other end the Mehdi Benatia-inspired Giallorossi backline never looked in danger of surrendering a 17th Serie A clean sheet.
Earlier, Ciro Immobile had stolen the limelight with his first-ever hat-trick in Torino FC's 3-1 success at home to Livorno Calcio, who remain locked on 24 points with Chievo, a point above the relegation zone. The former Juve man is now Serie A top scorer on 16 goals, one more than current Bianconeri forward Carlos Tévez. Luca Siligardi responded late on for Livorno.
