Napoli turn on the style to down Juventus

SSC Napoli were deserved winners as they beat Serie A leaders Juventus 2-0, allowing second-placed AS Roma to reduce the gap with victory at US Sassuolo Calcio.

SSC Napoli gave AS Roma a glimmer of hope in the chase for the Serie A title as Rafael Benítez's side defeated leaders Juventus 2-0, after the Giallorossi had prevailed at US Sassuolo Calcio by the same scoreline.

The Bianconeri's advantage now stands at 11 points – though Roma have a game in hand – after José Callejón and Dries Mertens got the goals for Napoli in either half. Gianluigi Buffon had twice produced excellent saves to deny Callejón, but the 27-year-old found the net on 37 minutes from close range and Mertens secured the points nine minutes from time via an angled shot.

Before that, Roma saw off relegation-threatened Sassuolo 2-0. Mattia Destro struck for the fourth consecutive match in the opening period and former Olympique Lyonnais full-back Michel Bastos landed the decisive blow deep into added time. As for Roma's eighth-placed city rivals SS Lazio, they dug deep to overcome Parma FC 3-2 courtesy of Antonio Candreva's last-gasp winner.

Elsewhere, the game between ACF Fiorentina, in fourth, and UC Sampdoria ended goalless, while Hellas Verona FC had Michelangelo Albertazzi sent off but still put three unanswered goals past Genoa CFC. Torino FC are a point back from Verona in tenth after posting a 2-1 victory against Cagliari Calcio.
