FC Internazionale Milano were twice pegged back in a 2-2 draw with Bologna FC as they passed up the opportunity to take fourth place in Serie A.
Diego Milito had a spot-kick – Inter's first penalty this season – saved by Gianluca Curci six minutes from time as Bologna, victorious in this fixture last term, frustrated the Nerazzurri again.
Mauro Icardi's early volleyed opener was cancelled out when Jonathan Cristaldo deflected Michele Pazienza's piledriver during an exciting first half, and the second period followed the same pattern. Icardi's immaculate curler, clipping the far post in its way in, handed Inter a second lead, but again Walter Mazzarri's men were to be pinned back when Panagiotis Kone turned in from close range. Milito was foiled from the spot as a determined Bologna came away with a deserved point.
Earlier, Hellas Verona FC triumphed 1-0 in the local derby with AC Chievo Verona, getting revenge on their rivals for defeat in the reverse fixture earlier this season. Luca Toni reacted quickest to prod in a loose ball from close range and settle the contest. The goal took the 36-year-old Toni's tally to 16 goals for the season, making him Verona's all-time top scorer in a single top-flight campaign.
