Champions Juventus completed the double over AS Roma as Pablo Osvaldo's added-time goal sealed a 1-0 victory, on a day when the relegation places were decided in Italy.
Antonio Conte's side inflicted the Giallorossi's first defeat of the Serie A season with a 3-0 win in Turin back in January, yet they looked unlikely to repeat the feat in the capital as the clock ticked past the 90-minute mark with the game still goalless.
Paul Pogba had come closest to making the breakthrough when he hit the woodwork just before the interval, but the visitors finally registered in the 94th minute when Osvaldo smashed Stephan Lichtsteiner's cross into the top corner to leave Juve 14 points clear with one game remaining.
Elsewhere, third-placed SSC Napoli won their final away game of the season in style, recording a 5-2 triumph at UC Sampdoria. As for ACF Fiorentina, they confirmed fourth spot thanks to Juan Cuadrado's goal in a 1-0 success at AS Livorno Calcio that condemned the hosts to Serie B football next term.
Calcio Catania were also relegated despite a 2-1 victory at Bologna FC – confirmed in the final relegation spot – as both US Sassuolo Calcio and AC Chievo Verona, in 16th and 17th respectively, clinched wins to protect their top-flight status.
Also on Sunday, both teams ended with ten men as sixth-placed Torino FC missed the chance to seal UEFA Europa League football in a 1-1 draw with Parma FC, who sit a point and a place behind, while Franco Brienza's 96th-minute strike for Atalanta BC secured a 2-1 home win against AC Milan.
