Serie A side Atalanta BC have appointed Luigi Del Neri as their new coach following Stefano Colantuono's departure for UEFA Cup contenders US Città di Palermo.

Colantuono signed a two-year contract with the Sicilian club on Thursday and is replaced by 56-year-old Del Neri, who left AC Chievo Verona at the end of the season after failing to help them avoid relegation from Italy's top flight. Del Neri had made his name during a successful four-year first spell with the Verona side before returning last season after spells at FC Porto, AS Roma and Palermo. He moves to an Atalanta team that finished eighth last season in Serie A.
