SSC Napoli have replaced coach Roberto Donadoni with Walter Mazzarri after a disappointing start to the season, with the latter signing a contract until June 2011.
Former Italy coach Donadoni, 46, succeeded Edoardo Reja in March, but his side have collected just seven points from as many games this season and Sunday's 2-1 loss at AS Roma proved the final straw. Napoli invested heavily in players in the summer, bringing in the likes of Fabio Quagliarella, Juan Camilo Zúñiga and Luca Cigarini, and it will now be up to the 48-year-old Mazzarri to make the most of their talent. Mazzarri left UC Sampdoria at the end of last season and was previously at Napoli as assistant to coach Renzo Ulivieri in 1998/99. Among his former clubs, he led AS Livorno Calcio to promotion in 2003/04 and was in charge of Reggina Calcio before taking over at Sampdoria in 2007.
