• A midfielder, Julius Kvedaras won five domestic cups in Lithuania in the days of the Soviet Union – with FK Inkaras in 1969 and with FK Kalininkas in 1976, 1978, 1979 and 1980 – and played in Russia with FC Tom Tomsk. He then lifted two league titles and another cup as coach of FK Inkaras-Grifas, as well as helping out with the national team.

• His coaching career was put on hold when Kvedaras took over as general secretary of the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF) in 2000, and his expertise saw him drafted onto UEFA's Football Committee in 2007.

• He replaced Liutauras Varanavičius as LFF president in 2012, with his predecessor not seeking a fourth term, and said: "Lithuania is a small footballing nation and we have to continue working hard to stay competitive. We can only succeed by doing that together. We must continue developing the infrastructure and focus on youth football, expanding the network of football academies."
