FC Victoria Rosport endured a miserable end to the Division Nationale season as they were condemned to relegation on the final day and then defeated in the cup final by the same opponent – CS Grevenmacher.
Heading into the final round of fixtures, Rosport still had control of their destiny but things were looking bleak after just two minutes when Tom Munoz gave Grevenmacher the lead. Claude Osweiler's side then showed their opponents no mercy in the second half, scoring five unanswered goals to condemn Rosport to a 6-0 defeat and a place in the second tier following FC Wiltz 71's victory at FC Progrès Niedercorn. Salvation is not yet secure for Wiltz, though, as they must play FC Sporting Steinfort, who finished third in the second division, in a relegation-promotion play-off.
Rosport had chance to avenge their heavy defeat a week later when they contested the end-of-season showpiece against Grevenmacher. Proceedings started in similar fashion to the last meeting when Munoz was on target early on, Grevenmacher eventually emerging 4-1 victors to land their fourth cup triumph. Despite the two heavy reverses, Rosport coach Reiner Brinsa was gracious in defeat, saying: "We are proud to have reached this final. I congratulate CS Grevenmacher and wish the club all the luck in the UEFA Cup qualification rounds."
