The celebrations have started for F91 Dudelange after the Division Nationale titleholders sealed their fifth consecutive Luxembourgeois title by prevailing 1-0 at FC Swift Hesperange.
Walter winner
Michel Leflochmoan's charges needed a point to guarantee their eighth crown overall but took all three courtesy of Christophe Walter's 89th-minute winner. With two games remaining, they now boast an eleven-point lead over nearest pursuers FC Differdange 03, who succumbed 3-2 at home against CS Fola Esch. Dudelange's reward is a berth in the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round, though of more immediate concern will be their Luxembourg Cup semi-final against FC Etzella Ettelbrück on 21 May as they attempt to win a third double in four seasons.
'Fantastic season'
"Winning the title so early is further confirmation of what a fantastic season it has been," said French coach Leflochmoan, 57, who has been in charge since 2005. "I am very proud of my team."
Differdange target
Certain to finish either second or third, Differdange will enter the UEFA Europa League first qualifying round, unless they themselves can lift the knockout trophy. Up against UN Käerjéng 97 in their last-four tie, they know a berth in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round lies in wait for the eventual cup winners.
