From 5 to 7 September, the British Embassy in Chisinau, the Football Association of Moldova (FMF) and the Spirit of Soccer NGO organised the 2013 Football Ambassadors of Peace project.
The project involved a workshop for coaches held at the FMF's national training centre in Vadul-lui-Voda, followed by a football festival for 100 girls from ten Under-14 teams from all over Moldova (including Transnistria and the autonomous territorial unit of Gagauziya).
The festival was attended by Phil Batson, British ambassador to the Republic of Moldova, Nicolai Cebotari, general secretary of the FMF, and Scott Lee, founder and director of Spirit of Soccer. The project will help to develop child protection policies and practices, as well as fostering the improvement of coaching methods for women's football in Moldova.
The British embassy in Chisinau, the FMF and Spirit of Soccer – a partner in FIFA's Football For Hope programme – have designed and implemented four previous schemes addressing issues relating to conflict resolution, children's rights and child protection in Moldova.
