Sliema Wanderers FC will be the opposition when Malta international and Valletta FC captain Gilbert Agius makes his 400th Premier League appearance for the club on Friday night.
Agius made his Citizens debut at the age of 16 on 2 September 1990, also against Sliema, and has since amassed 556 appearances, scored 236 goals and won six league titles. Aside from a brief spell on loan with AC Pisa in Italy in 2001-02, the 36-year-old has been a mainstay for Valletta and is the only player ever to have been voted Maltese Footballer of the Year on three occasions.
He has made more league appearances for Valletta than any other player and stands second behind Stefan Sultana on the division's all-time list. "I never considered reaching this feat," Agius told UEFA.com. "The club means a lot to me since I was born and brought up in the streets of Valletta. I consider the Valletta supporters to be the best in the world. I have another year as a player in my current contract , so I will do my best in training to keep fit and always be available for the team."
