More than 1,000 youngsters took part in two of Montenegro's biggest grassroots tournaments over the weekend of 25/26 June, when the Football Federation of Montenegro (FSCG) used the occasion to emphasise its anti-doping stance.
'Football – YES, Drugs – NO' was the motto of a seven-a-side tournament held in the city of Niksic which featured 16 teams from Montenegro and Bosnia and Herzegovina. A total of 450 children aged between nine and 11 participated in the two-day event hosted by local club FK Sutjeska Nikšić, with each side playing at least six matches.
Meanwhile, over 600 young people were involved in the Bravera Cup competition that ran concurrently in Bijelo Polje, northeast Montenegro. A total of 22 teams started out in the five-a-side event, which will conclude on 2 July when the FSCG will present prizes including balls, medals and cups to the winners. The standout performers in categories such as best player, best goalkeeper, top goalscorer and best goal will also be rewarded.
Both tournaments were part of UEFA's Summer of Grassroots Football, comprising activities organised by the UEFA member associations throughout the summer months with the focus on fun and getting youngsters actively involved in the game.
