Ajax surge into second

Published: Sunday 21 March 2010, 21.56CET
AFC Ajax hauled themselves to within four points of the Eredvisie summit with a comfortable 5-1 victory at bottom club RKC Waalwijk on Sunday, moving ahead of PSV Eindhoven into second following Saturday's 1-1 draw between Fred Rutten's team and leaders FC Twente. Siem de Jong put Ajax ahead after nine minutes and though a Marko Pantelić own goal left the teams level at the interval, Luis Suárez found the net soon after the break. A red card for Ruud Berger (69) and Hans Mulder's own goal then left the visitors firmly in charge, before Suárez fired his 29th of the campaign and Dennis Rommedahl rounded off the scoring.
