Robben given more time

Arjen Robben will remain in the Netherlands' FIFA World Cup squad "for the time being" after the FC Bayern München winger underwent a scan on a hamstring injury on Sunday.

Netherlands winger Arjen Robben will go to the FIFA World Cup despite suffering a hamstring injury in the 6-1 friendly win against Hungary.

The FC Bayern München forward limped out of Saturday's victory, prompting immediate concerns that he would miss the tournament. Though subsequent scans in Rotterdam have yet to reveal the full extent of the problem, Oranje coach Bert van Marwijk says the player will join up with the rest of the squad and be given as much time as possible to recover before a final decision is made. "For the time being, I will not replace Arjen," said Van Marwijk.

The Netherlands begin their tournament against Denmark on 14 June before further Group E tests against Japan five days later and Cameroon on 24 June.
