Van Bommel back at PSV after leaving Milan

"This feels like coming home," said Netherlands midfielder Mark van Bommel after ending his AC Milan spell by agreeing a one-year deal with his former club PSV Eindhoven.

Mark van Bommel has signed a one-year deal with former club PSV Eindhoven after ending his stay at AC Milan.

The 35-year-old Netherlands midfielder was out of contract with the Rossoneri following an 18-month spell that yielded the Serie A title last term, and he returns to the club where he won four Eredivisie crowns between 1999 and 2005. "I came here to play for the trophies," said Van Bommel. "I have the feeling I can go for the championship with PSV. This feels like coming home."

"This is a transfer we have been busy with for a long time," added PSV's technical director Marcel Brands. "We're happy that in the end we managed to get such an internationally experienced player – who has a great past at this club and is also the Oranje captain – back at PSV."

Van Bommel's arrival represents another high-profile move by the Boeren, who announced the return of coach Dick Advocaat to the dugout last week. The club won the Dutch Cup under previous boss Phillip Cocu last month and finished third in the Eredivisie this term, opening the doors to next season's UEFA Europa League play-offs.

First signed by PSV from Fortuna Sittard, Van Bommel left the Eindhoven outfit for FC Barcelona in 2005 and won the Liga title in his only season before adding a pair of Bundesliga triumphs during his four and a half years at FC Bayern München. He has also won 74 caps for the Netherlands and is expected to continue captaining the side at UEFA EURO 2012.
