CSKA's Czech forward Necid out for six months

PFC CSKA Moskva's Czech international centre-forward Tomáš Necid will be out of action for six months after he sustained a serious knee injury in Russian league action.

PFC CSKA Moskva's Czech Republic striker Tomáš Necid will be laid off for six months after damaging the anterior cruciate ligament, lateral ligament and cartilage in his right knee during a Russian Premier League game on Friday.

The 21-year-old, who has scored three goals in 11 league outings in 2011, came on as a substitute 74 minutes into the Army Men's 4-2 win at FC Terek Grozny, but was carried off injured eight minutes later. He is scheduled to undergo surgery in Barcelona on Tuesday and may not play again this year, with specialists suggesting he will need six months to recover.

The 25-times capped Necid will miss his country's remaining UEFA EURO 2012 qualifiers, against Scotland, Spain and Lithuania. The Czechs lie second in Group I, six points adrift of leaders Spain. Necid has played in all five of their qualifiers, scoring once. He will also be absent as CSKA embark upon another UEFA Champions League campaign; last season's Russian runners-up are sure of a group stage place.
