Tošić strike scoops Russian title for CSKA

"We are truly a Team with a capital 'T'," said winger Zoran Tošić after his goal against FC Lokomotiv Moskva ensured that PFC CSKA Moskva held on to retain the Russian title.

PFC CSKA Moskva have retained the Russian title, Zoran Tošić scoring the only goal in a final-day game against FC Lokomotiv Moskva to deny FC Zenit the crown.

A tenth successive Premier League victory proved to be enough for Leonid Slutski's side, Serbian winger Tošić on target with a low shot following a corner just after the interval at the Arena Khimki. Zenit – who won 4-1 at FC Kuban Krasnodar – would have taken the title had CSKA failed to win, but André Villas-Boas's side will be left to rue Sunday's home loss to FC Dinamo Moskva, which left the door open for the Army Men to pip them at the finish line.

"CSKA won today because we are truly a Team with a capital 'T'," Tošić bragged afterwards. "We don't have stars like Real Madrid, Barcelona or Bayern, but we have a wonderful family and that's what matters. We didn't give up, even after that loss to Dinamo in March [which left CSKA nine points shy of the leaders], when nobody believed in us anymore. We deserved this success."

Zenit finished just a point shy of CSKA, while Lokomotiv end the campaign a further four points adrift in third, having taken just one point from the final three games of a promising season under Leonid Kuchuk.
