CSKA's Doumbia and Slutski honoured in Russia

PFC CSKA Moskva striker Seydou Doumbia has been named Russian Premier League player of the season with Leonid Slutski picking up the award for best coach.

PFC CSKA Moskva striker Seydou Doumbia has been named Russian Premier League player of the season with his boss Leonid Slutski awarded the prize for best coach by the Russian Football Union (RFS).

Both played a key part in CSKA retaining the league title, with the 26-year-old Doumbia recovering from a back injury that restricted him to a handful of appearances last season to strike 18 times this term. Meanwhile, Slutski oversaw a run of ten straight wins in spring including defeats of title rivals FC Zenit – who were to finish one point adrift – and FC Lokomotiv Moskva, transforming a title bid that looked unlikely at the winter break.

Unsurprisingly, CSKA were named club of the year, while 18-year-old Lokomotiv midfielder Aleksei Miranchuk was honoured as the best young player. Aleksei Nikolaev was voted best referee, while FC Krasnodar founder and president Sergei Galitski was bestowed with the award 'For contribution to development of football' after his club finished fifth and earned a UEFA competition debut.
