Celtic FC defender Gary Caldwell has won the Scottish Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award. The 27-year-old centre-back took the coveted prize ahead of team-mate Scott Brown – who won the PFA award last week – and Rangers FC striker Kris Boyd.
'Big club'
"I think I’ve improved in every aspect of my game since coming here," said Caldwell, who joined Celtic from Hibernian FC in 2006. "That's the reason I came here. I wanted to be tested. I wanted the pressure of playing at a big club and winning championships. There's no better place to do that than here."
Title twist
Celtic slipped to second place in the Scottish Premier League on Saturday, two points behind rivals Rangers following their 1-0 defeat at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby. There are three rounds of fixtures remaining.
