SP Tre Fiori defeated AC Juvenes-Dogana 3-1 on penalties after 120 goalless minutes in the play-off final to win a record fifth Sammarinese title and earn a first stab at the UEFA Champions League first qualifying round.
Juvenes-Dogana's Marco Fantini had the first good opportunity of the game after 28 minutes but fired over from a good position. Three minutes from the interval Tre Fiori responded with an Alessandro Giunta header which drew a good save from goalkeeper Simone Montanari. Fantini had a great opportunity to break the deadlock immediately after half-time when Tre Fiori defender Giacomo Benedettini's misplaced header sent him through, but the forward missed the target with only Massimiliano Micheletti to beat.
Chances dwindled in the later stages, with both teams obviously desperate not to lose, and with no goals in extra-time, Micheletti was the shoot-out hero, saving from Fantini and Federico Nanni while Alberto Colombini fired his effort over. Juvenes/Dogana will play in the UEFA Europa League after winning the Sammarinese Cup, while Tre Fiore's first title since 1995 ends S.S. Murata's three-season spell as champions and hands them a place in Europe's top club competition.
