FC Basel 1893 have announced they will part company with coach Murat Yakin at the end of this season, two days after the 3-1 victory against FC Aarau that clinched the Swiss title for the 17th time.
A club statement said that Yakin's contract, which was due to run until the end of next season, has been dissolved by mutual consent. A former Basel captain, he had been in charge since October 2012 when he succeeded Heiko Vogel and subsequently led the team to two Swiss championships. His team also reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals in 2012/13 and got the quarter-finals of this season's competition before losing to Valencia CF in a memorable tie.
"I've had a successful, intense and great time here," Yakin said. The club added: "The cooperation wasn't just extraordinarily successful, it was also shaped by mutual respect and decency. FCB wish Yakin all the best for his future coaching career."
Yakin's last match for the club will be on Sunday, when their Super League campaign concludes against relegated FC Lausanne-Sport. Basel are expected to name their new coach in the next few weeks.
