ŠK Slovan Bratislava are Slovak First League champions following MFK Ružomberok's 3-1 victory against second-placed FK Senica.
Though Slovan are not in action until Sunday, they are now seven points clear of Senica, who have only two games remaining, and are therefore assured of a 15th Slovak championship. Having also been crowned as Slovak Cup winners at the start of the month, Slovan have won the domestic double for the fourth time. For 37-year-old coach Samuel Slovák, it is a first title.
It has been a long time coming for the capital club, who spurned two previous opportunities to open up an unassailable lead. Firstly, a fortnight ago, they lost 4-1 against FK AS Trenčín, before then drawing 2-2 with Ružomberok last weekend. Slovan's tally of seven league titles since Slovak independence puts them out on their own, one ahead of MŠK Žilina.
