Struggling Östers IF have sacked coach Jevgenij Kouznetsov amid rumours of a players' revolt.
The news of Kouznetsov's dismissal came just hours after an unnamed player was reported as saying that many of the team were pushing for the coach's dismissal. Chairman Ola Rydén said: "We have spoken to Kouznetsov and agreed that it's better for the club if he leaves his post."
Promoted to the Allsvenskan last season, Öster had struggled to reproduce the exciting, flowing football that had marked their campaign in 2002. "A lot of players were opposed to his ideas, and many wanted to get rid off him," said the unnamed Öster player. "Our self-confidence is really low, and there's a very negative attitude within the squad."
The club's director of sport, Leif Widén, will now lead the team in the coming games against IF Elfsborg and Enköpings SK. After that there will be a short break in the Swedish season after which Öster hope to have found a new coach.
