Moussa Sow's early strike was enough to secure a second successive Turkish Cup triumph for Fenerbahçe SK as the Istanbul outfit edged out Trabzonspor AŞ in Ankara.
The final was nine minutes old when Sow rounded off a counterattack with a simple finish directed past goalkeeper Tolga Zengin after collecting Mehmet Topal's pass. Trabzonspor could not find an equaliser so Aykut Kocaman, whose side finished runners-up to Galatasaray AŞ in the league, becomes the first coach to guide the Yellow Canaries to back-to-back cup successes.
For wing-back Hasan Ali Kaldırım it was just reward for a campaign that saw unprecedented success in Europe too, as Fenerbahçe reached the UEFA Europa League semi-finals. "We played around 65 matches in three different competitions this season and were at our limit," said the left-back. "Unfortunately, we lost out in the league but we kept our heads high and capped the season with a trophy. Let this silverware be a tribute to our fans."
