FC Lokomotiv Moskva have pulled off a transfer coup by signing Portugal midfielder Manuel Fernandes on a free transfer.
The 28-year-old has inked a four-year contract after leaving Beşiktaş JK and becomes the Russian club's second summer signing following the acquisition of Alan Kasaev. "The most important task our scouting team had was to find a creative midfielder," said Lokomotiv sporting director Kirill Kotov. "He's a skilful player with a great football brain and we're confident he'll bring variety to our attacking play, which is really important in Europe."
Lisbon-born Fernandes started his career at SL Benfica before turning out for Portsmouth FC, Everton FC and Valencia CF. He joined Beşiktaş in 2011, initially on loan, scoring 15 times in 90 league appearances. Lokomotiv finished the 2013/14 Russian Premier League campaign in third.
