A new name will be etched on the Ukraine Cup on 16 May after SC Tavriya Simferopol and FC Metalurh Donetsk booked their progress.

Metalurh have never before reached the showpiece, and that the duck is now broken owes much to a scintillating opening start to their fixture against arch-rivals FC Shakhtar Donetsk. Within nine minutes goals from Musawengosi Mguni and Velizar Dimitrov had put them two goals to the good – it proved an insurmountable lead for Shakhtar, though they went down fighting. Goalkeeper Vladimir Dišljenković's stunning resistance was finally ended in second-half added time, but Fernandinho's goal was not enough for the six-time winners.

The other semi-final went much the same way for Tavriya, albeit against less decorated opponents in second-tier SC Volyn Lutsk. The visitors were 2-0 up by the interval, Olexandr Kovpak scoring both goals, but Volyn responded well and pulled one back through Olexiy Kurilov soon after the restart. Runners-up in 1993/94, Tavriya held on for a 2-1 win.
