Shakhtar, City and Barça lead unbeaten brigade

FC Shakhtar Donetsk, Manchester City FC and FC Barcelona get their due as UEFA.com celebrates the sides who have not lost in their domestic leagues after ten games or more.

UEFA.com celebrates the teams who have gone unbeaten in the first ten or more games of the season. Kudos also to Olympiacos FC in Greece and Albanian sides KS Skënderbeu and FK Kukësi who can make it to double figures without losing this weekend. In Portugal, FC Porto and SL Benfica are undefeated after eight matches, as are Cypriot outfits APOEL FC, Anorthosis Famagusta FC, AEK Larnaca FC and AEL Limassol FC. San Marino's SS Murata are the only other unbeaten club in a European top flight, having lasted six games without losing this term.

England: Manchester City FC v Tottenham Hotspur FC (Sunday 14.30)
The English champions had another underwhelming week in the UEFA Champions League. While they are also only third in the Premier League, the statistics will give manager Roberto Mancini some comfort – they remain undefeated with six wins and four draws and sit within two points of league leaders Manchester United FC, who have hardly dazzled either.

After a 0-0 draw at West Ham United FC in their last Premier League outing, Mancini said: "When you have 65% possession and 22 shots, you deserve to win – and we missed four incredible chances to score. But I am happy with the performance because we played well; I'm unhappy with the chances that we're missing."

Spain: RCD Mallorca v FC Barcelona (Sunday 17.50)
Following their midweek UEFA Champions League slip at Celtic FC, Barcelona will look to refocus on extending their best start to a Liga campaign when they travel to Mallorca on Sunday. The Azulgrana's victory against RC Celta de Vigo last weekend took Tito Vilanova's side past Louis van Gaal's previous best opening at Barça in 1997/98.

Nine wins and a draw also equals Real Madrid CF's best beginning to a top-flight campaign after ten matches, in 1968/69 and 1991/92. Midfielder Cesc Fàbregas hopes that momentum can help them seize the title back from Madrid. "We're happy with the effort we have put in so far this term and we must continue in this fashion," he said.

Ukraine: FC Metalurh Donetsk v FC Shakhtar Donetsk (Sunday, 15.00)
If Metalurh are in the familiar surroundings of mid-table, Shakhtar are 12 points clear at the top of the Premier-Liha after winning all 14 games this season. Metalurh's league derbies record – comprising 22 defeats and two draws, plus a goals deficit of 15-58 – will do little to offer further encouragement. Shakhtar, who lost 3-2 at Chelsea FC on Wednesday, also beat their city rivals 2-0 in the Ukrainian Super Cup in the summer.

"We have to turn our attentions quickly to the Ukrainian league and that is not always easy," said Shakhtar coach Mircea Lucescu. "We don't really want to drop any points. Our players have to treat our first defeat of the season calmly and move on. I am sure Metalurh have prepared very seriously for the derby so the game will be very exciting."

Malta: Valletta FC v Sliema Wanderers FC (Friday 20.15)
Four points clear at the Premier League summit despite recent draws with Rabat Ajax and Balzan Youths FC, Mark Miller's Valletta boast the best attacking and defensive records in the division, with 26 goals for and seven against. Striker Michael Mifsud, perhaps inevitably then, tops the scoring chart with ten goals from as many games, as Valletta have recorded seven wins and three draws.

"I don't believe it is easy to stay unbeaten in the Maltese Premier League," Mifsud told UEFA.com. "We have a united squad and I believe we can break our own streak of 37 unbeaten matches from last season."

Luxembourg: CS Grevenmacher v FC Progrès Niedercorn (Sunday 16.00)
Fourth-placed Grevenmacher are unbeaten in 11 matches but lie nine points adrift of table-topping CS Fola Esch. Marc Thomé's team have been solid away from home, drawing against the three sides above them – Fola, F91 Dudelange and AS Jeunesse Esch – yet have won just four games ahead of the visit of struggling Progrès. Worryingly, they began last term with a 13-match unbeaten sequence before the same opponents beat them 2-1. The 2002/03 champions also came close to losing their undefeated record last time out, with Daniel Huss striking at the death to snatch a 1-1 draw at FC RM Hamm Benfica.

Poland: Legia Warszawa v Jagiellonia Białystok (Saturday 18.00)
Poland: Górnik Zabrze v Zagłębie Łubin (Sunday 14.30)
With seven victories and three draws, Legia top the table and their forward Danijel Ljuboja heads the First Division scoring rankings with nine goals. "I am really glad I have scored so many but I did not come here for selfish reasons," former Serbia striker Ljuboja told UEFA.com. "I came here to help Legia win the title."

To the surprise of many, Górnik are third with five wins and as many draws thanks to some impressive attacking football. Burkina Faso's Prejuce Nakoulma has linked up well with 18-year-old Arkadiusz Milik up front. The latter is the star of the season so far, earning two national-team caps. Since he shares a birthday – 28 February – with Włodzimierz Lubański, who remains Górnik and Poland's all-time top marksman, much is expected of him.
