AEK Athens FC lead the Ethniki Katigoria in Greece by three points after a hard-fought win at Panahaiki GC on Sunday.

Tough time
The leaders were given a tough time by their struggling hosts. However Vassilis Lakis scored the crucial goal after 32 minutes to secure a 1-0 victory for AEK, who moved clear of Olympiakos Piraeus FC after the latter's 2-2 draw with Panathinaikos FC on Saturday.

Penalty scare
FC Aris Thessaloniki are third, six points behind AEK, after surviving a penalty scare to win 1-0 at Akratitos. Nikos Kizeridis's free-kick after 43 minutes gave the visitors the advantage, but goalkeeper Fanis Kateryiannakis had to save an 83rd-minute penalty from Panayiotis Velentzas after Akratitos had defender Kostas Pozapalidis sent off.

Bassinas own goal
FC PAOK Thessaloniki came from behind to win 2-1 at home to lowly Ethnikos Asteras, who took a 33rd-minute lead through Yiorgos Kontopulos. Stefanos Bassinas scored an own goal following a Yiassemakis Yiassemis shot shortly before half-time. Yiannakis Okkas scored the winner 18 minutes from the end.

Ruben Delgado's 88th-minute own goal denied Ionikos their first home win of the season. Having drawn four of their five home league games, Ionikos had earlier taken the lead on 65 minutes through Luis Curbelo.

Aigaleo bottom
Meanwhile, Aigaleo are still rooted to the bottom of the table, two points behind Panahaiki, after Panionios won 1-0 thanks to Elias Ioannu's 59th-minute strike.
