Darko Kovacevic completed his move from S.S. Lazio to Real Sociedad on Saturday after successfully passing a medical. The Yugoslavian striker will cost €13m, and it will be his second spell with the Primera División club.
'Fit and happy'
Having left to join Juventus for €20m in summer 1999, the immediate task on his return will be to score the goals to take Sociedad out of the relegation zone. "I am very fit and very happy," Kovacevic said. "I am grateful to all the fans for their support and the affection they have given me. I am very excited to return and to be able to help my team by scoring a lot of goals."
Sociedad are currently third-bottom in Spain and strengthened their squad before Chistmas with the signing of Liverpool FC goalkeeper Sander Westerveld. Coach John Toshack offered to quit earlier in the season but Kovacevic is confident the club can survive in the top-flight.
Training on Sunday
"I am surprised to see Socidedad in this situation because I have seen games from Italy and they have played well,'' he said. "I have come here to help a good team who have a good coach." Kovacevic will wear the number 24 shirt and start training with his new side on Sunday.
