Steaua fined over player dispute

FC Steaua Bucuresti have been fined for not releasing four players for an international friendly.

The Romanian Professional League (LPF) has fined FC Steaua Bucuresti for not releasing four players for a friendly against Georgia last week.

Two fines
Dorinel Munteanu, Mirel Radoi, Florentin Dumitru and Nicolae Dica failed to join up with the Romanian national team when called up six days before the international match in Cyprus on 18 February. However, the LPF's disciplinary commission has not punished the players and instead fined the club €5,000 and their executive president Mihai Stoica €1,600.

Season restart
At the time, Steaua coach Victor Piturca said he was only prepared to release the players two days before the match as they were preparing for the resumption of the Romanian league season.
