Rapid stunned by Otelul

League champions AFC Rapid Bucuresti were knocked out the Romanian Cup by CS Otelul Galati.

The major shock of the Romanian Cup quarter-finals was champions AFC Rapid Bucuresti's elimination at the hands of CS Otelul Galati.

Non-stop attacking
Trailing 2-0 from the first leg, Rapid attacked almost non-stop but only managed one goal, through Valentin Badoi in the 73rd minute, and were knocked out 2-1 on aggregate.

Holders through
Elsewhere, cup holders FC Dinamo Bucuresti beat FC Petrolul Ploiesti 2-1 to secure a huge 9-2 aggregate win while a 1-0 win for FC Arges-Dacia Pitesti against FC Apulum Unirea secured a 5-0 overall victory.

Golden goal
Finally, FC Gloria 1922 Bistrita overcame FC Politehnica AEK Timisoara courtesy of a 112th-minute golden goal from Mihai Peres. Gloria's 2-0 win overturned a 1-0 first-leg loss. The semi-finals will take place over two legs on 7 and 21 April.
