Madrid and Barça set for Spanish showpiece

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF will meet in the Copa del Rey showpiece after wrapping up semi-final wins, while SO Chambéry again stole the show in the Coupe de France round of 16.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid CF will meet in the Copa del Rey showpiece after semi-final triumphs against UD Almería and Sevilla FC respectively.

Adriano and Ibrahim Afellay scored their first goals for Barcelona in the Azulgrana's 3-0 defeat of Liga strugglers Almería, Josep Guardiola's team having won the first leg 5-0 at home. In three matches against the Catalan club this season, Almería have conceded 16 goals without reply. Emmanuel Adebayor, meanwhile, was one of two late scorers as Madrid wrapped up a 3-0 aggregate triumph against holders Sevilla, who had Sergio Sánchez sent off.

In the last 16 of the Coupe de France, SO Chambéry claimed their third top-flight scalp in as many rounds with a 2-1 home victory against FC Sochaux-Montbéliard. The fifth-tier side − who have also accounted for AS Monaco FC and Stade Brestois 29 − were not the only underdog to progress, though, with Le Mans UC 72 coming from behind to win by the same score at AS Nancy-Lorraine.

Elsewhere, OGC Nice prevailed by a single goal at fourth-tier JA Drancy, Guillaume Hoarau scored a hat-trick as holders Paris Saint-Germain FC triumphed 4-1 against FC Martigues and LOSC Lille Métropole beat FC Nantes 3-2 on penalties. On Tuesday, Stade Rennais FC were shocked 4-3 after extra time by Ligue 2 strugglers Stade de Reims. There were also wins for Angers SCO and FC Lorient.
