CA Osasuna have dismissed coach José Antonio Camacho after the Pamplona club dropped into the Liga relegation zone following a 1-0 weekend defeat at Real Sociedad de Fútbol.
The 55-year-old former Spain, Real Madrid CF and SL Benfica boss had been in charge since October 2008, but after winning just five of 23 top-flight games this term, Osasuna announced his contract had been cancelled. "I didn't expect this," Camacho said. "The president called me and told me I wouldn't be continuing. I'm sad and already bored that I'm not out there training."
Camacho took over from José Ángel Ziganda at the Reyno de Navarra in October 2008, leading the northern side to 15th and 12th-place league finishes. A club statement read: "CA Osasuna would like to offer its appreciation for the hard work put in by both Camacho and his assistant Pepe Carcelén over the last two and a half years and we wish them all the best in the future."
