Besiktas look to Romania

Besiktas JK reclaimed second place in Turkey thanks to goals from Romanians Daniel Pancu and Adrian Ilie.
Besiktas JK edged into second place in the Turkish Superleague courtesy of a 2-1 defeat of Galatasaray SK 2-1 in the Istanbul derby.

Two penalties
Trabzonspor had temporarily taken possession of the runners-up position on Saturday after Mehmet Yilmaz and Hans Somers secured a 2-0 win against Istanbulspor AS but Besiktas regained the initiative a day later; Romanian duo Daniel Pancu and Adrian Ilie both converting spot-kicks against Galatasaray to cancel out Ibrahim Üzülmez's 31st-minute own goal.

Leaders win
Six points in front of Besiktas at the top of the standings are Fenerbahçe SK, who consolidated pole position in the hunt for the title thanks to a 4-2 home victory against Akçaabat Sebatspor. The visitors did manage to collect the quickest goal of the season when Selahattin Kinali was on target in the first minute but the advantage was short-lived and the home side recovered through a Serhat Akin double and a further strike from Tuncay Sanli. Pierre van Hooijdonk sealed the win before Oktay Derelioglu had time to knock in an 86th-minute consolation.

Riza winner
Ömer Riza struck a 75th-minute winner against Diyarbakirspor to ensure in-form Denizlispor returned home with a 1-0 victory, while Gaziantepspor, a place behind in fifth, earned a 2-1 triumph against MKE Ankaragücü. Zdravko Lazarov and Bülent Bölükbasi were both on target.

Youla double
Souleymane Youla registered both goals to allow Gençlerbirligi SK to climb into ninth position by virtue of a 2-1 win against Samsunspor while Okan Öztürk and Cenk Isler inspired Konyaspor to the same result against Rizespor.

Other games
Elsewhere, Bursaspor secured a vital three points in their battle against relegation with a 3-0 away win against bottom club Adanaspor AS while Elazigspor and Malatyaspor drew 0-0.
