National service
Engel, who coached his country at the 2002 FIFA World Cup, was out of work for a year being dismissed shortly after . He then accepted a post as sports director at Legia Warszawa, which he resigned on 31 March after the club were taken over by new owners.

All change at Polonia
Engel has now decided to return to Polonia, where he worked from 1997-99 before becoming national coach. Polonia are eleventh in the 14-team Polish top flight and fighting relegation. Two weeks ago they appointed a new coach in Mieczyslaw Broniszewski, who replaced Krzysztof Chrobak.
