Trabzonspor take their chance

Trabzonspor moved to within two points of Turkish leaders Fenerbahçe SK, who could only draw at home.

Turkish Superleague leaders Fenerbahçe SK dropped two points in a 1-1 draw against Samsunspor at the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium on Sunday to give Trabzonspor hope of the title.

Trabzonspor charge
Fábio Luciano opened the scoring for the home side in the 36th minute but Senol Yavas levelled proceedings midway through the second-half, touching in Evren Turhan’s free-kick. Trabzonspor, now only two points behind the Istanbul side in second, collected their ninth successive win with a 3-0 away victory against Elazigspor on Saturday, moving three points clear of third-placed Besiktas JK. All the action took place late on, Ibrahima Yattara striking first in the 67th minute before Fatih Tekke was on target in the 77th and 87th.

Besiktas setback
Besiktas suffered another setback with a 2-2 draw away against Konyaspor on Saturday. The visitors were on the back foot immediately after two goals inside 15 minutes from Zafer Biryol but rescued a point thanks to Serdar Topraktepe’s double.

Galatasaray thriller
On Friday, Galatasaray SK collected their first points under new coach Gheorghe Hagi, Necati Ates scoring a hat-trick in a 4-3 win at home against Denizlispor. The hosts went ahead through a 12th-minute Roman Kratochvil penalty before Ates equalised five minutes later. Denizlispor went ahead in the 27th minute when Ömer Rize slotted in but Denizlispor’s joy was again cut short by Ates. He collected his third after Timuçin Bayazit had made it 3-3 following a strike from Sabri Sarioglu.

Other games
Rizespor edged aside already-relegated visitors Adanaspor AS 1-0 courtesy of an Okan Öztürk goal while 16th-placed Bursaspor defeated Akçaabat Sebatspor, the team immediately above them, by the same score on their travels. Visitors Istanbulspor AS strengthened their position in 14th place with a 2-1 defeat of Diyarbakirspor but Gaziantepspor went down 3-1 to Malatyaspor at home thanks to goals from Ilyas Kahraman, Fazli Ulusoy and Mert Korkmaz. In the Ankara derby, MKE Ankaragücü overcame home side Gençlerbirligi SK 2-1.
