FC St. Gallen and Grasshopper-Club shared a 2-2 draw on Saturday in the first Nationalliga A game of 2002.

Enjoyable stalemate
The opening round of the Swiss championship group ended in an enjoyable stalemate after the home side could not take full advantage at the Espenmoos stadium.

Eduardo equaliser
New St Gallen coach Girard Castella watched his team put in a battling display against Marcel Koller's Zurich side but they were denied victory by a late goal. Canadian defender Daniel Imhof put St. Gallen ahead after six minutes but his effort was cancelled out just nine minutes later by Brazilian forward Eduardo.

St. Gallen thwarted
The home side were back in front in the 25th minute through Romanian striker Ionel Gane, who netted his tenth goal of the season but they were denied the win 18 minutes from time, however, as Uruguayan forward Richard Nuñez grabbed the equaliser.
