Greece round-up: AEK back to winning ways

AEK Athens maintained their lead at the top with a 1-0 win over Ethnikos Asteras on Sunday.

AEK Athens put their midweek UEFA Cup defeat by Internazionale FC behind them with a 1-0 win over Ethnikos Asteras on Sunday.

Lakis seals points
A solitary Vasillios Lakis goal five minutes before half-time was enough to wrap up the points for AEK, who stay two points clear at the top of the Ethniki Katigoria table.

Olympiakos moving up
Two goals in seven second-half minutes from Stylianos Giannakopoulos and Alexios Alexandris enabled Olympiakos Piraeus FC beat local rivals Ionikos 2-0. The win moved Olympiakos up to second place, leapfrogging Panathinaikos FC, who drew 0-0 at Panahaiki GC on Saturday.

Yiassemis leveller
FC PAOK Thessaloniki slipped to fifth after they drew 1-1 at Panionios GC. Kareem Mouzaui gave the Athens minnows the lead in the fifth minute before PAOK's Cypriot frontman Yiassemakis Yiassemis equalised ten minutes later.

Spectacular winner
Xanthi FC replaced Dusan Bajevic's side in fourth after they defeated FC Aris Thessaloniki 1-0 at home. A spectacular 16th-minute overhead kick from Vangelis Kaunos was the only goal of the game. In the day's other matches, top-flight newcomers Aigaleo moved out of the bottom three with a 2-1 win over Iraklis FC and OFI Crete won 2-1 away at Akratitos.
