Netherlands round-up: Vitesse move into fifth

SBV Vitesse improved their hopes of a European place with a 2-0 win against Roda JC on Monday.

SBV Vitesse improved their hopes of a European place next season with a 2-0 away win against Roda JC on Monday evening.

Mbama hero and villain
A crowd of around 14,000 in the Sportpark Kaalheide stadium saw their side fall behind to Cameroonian Emile Mbama's goal three minutes before the break. Mbama was then sent off in the 68th minute for striking Roda's Mark Luijpers on the back of the head while defending a corner. Matthew Amoah wrapped things up with a well-taken goal with eleven minutes remaining.

Fifth place
The result sees Vitesse leapfrog NAC Breda into fifth place in the Eredivisie table, level on points with SC Heerenveen. The Arnhem-based club are now just four points behind PSV Eindhoven and Feyenoord and a further five adrift of leaders AFC Ajax.
