Rennes march on as Celta seal comeback

Stade Rennais FC reached the French League Cup semi-finals after edging ES Troyes Aube Champagne while RC Celta de Vigo earned a Copa del Rey tie with Real Madrid CF.

France
Stade Rennais FC claimed the last available place in the French League Cup semi-finals thanks to a 2-1 home victory against ES Troyes Aube Champagne in the last eight. Jonathan Pitroipa's early opener for the hosts was cancelled out by Corentin Jean midway through the first half and the score remained 1-1 until the final minute when Romain Alessandrini's intervention proved decisive. Rennes will face Montpellier Hérault SC in the last four while AS Saint-Étienne play LOSC Lille.

Spain
RC Celta de Vigo produced a notable comeback to secure a meeting with Real Madrid CF in the last 16 of the Copa del Rey. UD Almería led 2-0 from the fourth round first leg but Roberto Lago's last-gasp effort in the return in Vigo took the tie to extra time, before De Lucas made it 3-0 for the Liga side on the night. Real Zaragoza came through a battle of top-flight strugglers by completing an away-goals triumph at Granada CF, their tie ending 2-2. The visitors – with a 1-0 first-leg advantage – played the final hour-hour with ten men after Hélder Postiga was sent off and Diego Mainz then made it 2-1 on the night to hosts Granada, only for Zaragoza to hold on and earn an encounter with Levante UD. Elsewhere, RCD Mallorca drew 0-0 at RC Deportivo La Coruña to proceed, to a contest with Sevilla FC, on away goals after the first leg finished 1-1.
