Liverpool FC swept aside Swansea City AFC 5-0 at Anfield to leapfrog Michael Laudrup's team in seventh spot on a day when Chelsea FC and Manchester City FC both enjoyed 4-0 victories in the FA Cup.
The values that Brendan Rodgers had nurtured in south Wales came back to haunt his old club when Luis Enrique finished off a probing team move five minutes into the second half – after a Steven Gerrard penalty and Coutinho's first Premier League strike had put Liverpool in control. Luis Suárez arrowed in a fourth, before Daniel Sturridge completed the formalities from the spot.
Elsewhere, Frank Lampard became Chelsea's all-time leading FA Cup goalscorer as the holders eased past third-division Brentford FC in their fourth round replay at Stamford Bridge. Second-half goals from Juan Mata and Oscar lifted any lingering tension, before Lampard registered his 26th goal in the competition and John Terry headed in a fourth.
Roberto Mancini's men are through to the quarter-finals, meanwhile, after seeing off second-tier Leeds United AFC. Yaya Touré broke the deadlock on five minutes and Sergio Agüero struck either side of Carlos Tévez's effort. As for Wigan Athletic FC, they booked their place in the last eight with a 4-1 win at Huddersfield Town FC.
