SL Benfica moved into third place with a convincing 5-0 home victory over SC Farense on Monday.

SL Benfica moved into third place in the 1. Liga table with a convincing 5-0 home victory over bottom club SC Farense on Monday night.

Direct free-kick
The hosts went in front after 12 minutes, when Simão Sabrosa drilled a direct free-kick home via the underside of the crossbar. Farense hung on to the one-goal deficit until half-time but collapsed in the second period, conceding four unanswered goals.

Zahovic on target
Tiago doubled Benfica's advantage after beating two defenders in the 48th minute, before Luís Miguel made it 3-0 with a low angled shot from 20 metres. Slovenian international Zlatko Zahovic scored at the far post with 14 minutes remaining and Simão grabbed his second of the night to complete the scoring.
