Parma progress as Bologna crash out

Serie B sides US Avellino, AC Siena and Spezia Calcio progressed alongside Parma FC to the fifth round of the Coppa Italia, while Bologna FC were eliminated.

Parma FC, US Avellino, AC Siena and Spezia Calcio made it through to the fifth round of the Coppa Italia on Tuesday.

Three-time winners Parma strode into the next stage thanks to a 4-1 home win against AS Varese. Jaime Valdés gave Roberto Donadoni's men an early lead, which was added to by Gianni Munari, Raffaele Palladino and Aleandro Rosi in the second half.

The upset of the day was to be found at Renato Dall'Ara, where Serie B side Siena eliminated Bologna FC. Zou Feddal's goal in added time after 120 minutes of play sealed victory, Daniele Moscardelli having cancelled out Francesco Valiani's opener for Siena to force extra time.

Spezia prevailed 3-0 against Serie B rivals Pescara Calcio, their task made easier by the first-half dismissals of Delfini duo Dario Župarić and Aniello Cutolo. Avellino beat Frosinone 2-1 courtesy of goals from Angelo D'Angelo and Luigi Castaldo.
