Two goals inside the final seven minutes sealed a 4-1 victory against Hellas Verona FC and confirmed UC Sampdoria as the final club through to the Coppa Italia fourth round.

UC Sampdoria, second bottom of Serie A, completed the lineup for the Coppa Italia round of 16 by defeating Hellas Verona FC 4-1 at home.

The Blucerchiati avenged their 2-0 league loss to the Gialloblu in late October with a victory that was not as emphatic as the scoreline suggests. Goals in the final seven minutes from Nenad Krstičić and Renan finally ended the challenge of the visiting side, who had halved their arrears when Samuele Longo struck after the hour. Siniša Mihajlović's team had raced into a two-goal lead inside the first 20 minutes through Gianluca Sansone and Birkir Bjarnason.

The other seven ties were played on Tuesday and Wednesday, with Serie B clubs Spezia Calcio and AS Avellino 1912 among those progressing. Last season's top eight in Serie A enter in the round of 16 on 9 January, with the draw bracket already set.

Round of 16 draw
AC Milan v Spezia Calcio
Udinese Calcio v FC Internazionale Milano
ACF Fiorentina v AC Chievo Verona
Calcio Catania v AC Siena
AS Roma v UC Sampdoria
Juventus v AS Avellino 1912
SS Lazio (holders) v Parma FC
SSC Napoli v Atalanta BC
