Atlético, Barcelona and Napoli make it through

UEFA Champions League last-32 contenders Club Atlético de Madrid and FC Barcelona reached the Copa del Rey last four, while SSC Napoli progressed to the Coppa Italia semi-finals.

Copa del Rey
Club Atlético de Madrid will play capital rivals Real Madrid CF in the semi-finals after wrapping up a 3-1 aggregate success against Athletic Club. Diego Simeone's side's 1-0 first-leg advantage was wiped out by Aritz Aduriz's effort just before the break, but second-half goals from Raúl García and Diego Costa ensured Atlético made it through to the last four.

FC Barcelona also made it through in emphatic fashion, completing a 9-2 overall success against Levante UD with a rousing home win. Already 4-1 to the good following the opening instalment, the Blaugrana triumphed 5-1 at Camp Nou, with Adriano, Carles Puyol – his first goal in more than a year – Alexis Sánchez (2) and Cesc Fàbregas on the mark for Gerardo Martino's team.

Coppa Italia
Gonzalo Higuaín scored the only goal, eight minutes from time, as SSC Napoli beat Coppa Italia holders SS Lazio 1-0 to set up a semi-final meeting with AS Roma. With numerous opportunities, Napoli's win could have been more comfortable. Jorginho came close with a superb curler that crashed back off the far upright, but the Partenopei's breakthrough came in less stylish fashion, Higuaín redirecting an off-target José Callejón shot past a helpless Etrit Berisha.

France
Olympique de Marseille climbed back to fifth place with a 2-1 win in their postponed meeting with struggling Valenciennes FC at Stade Vélodrome. Florian Thauvin scored decisively for Marseille after Arthur Masuaku's fierce, swerving shot had brought him a debut Ligue 1 goal and cancelled out André-Pierre Gignac's opportunistic opener for the hosts.
