Montella happy in Rome

Italy striker Vincenzo Montella has signed a two-year extension with Italian champions AS Roma.

Italy striker Vincenzo Montella has signed a two-year extension with the Italian champions AS Roma which will keep him at the club until mid-2006.

Four-goal hero
The contract will earn in-form Montella, who had two years left on his existing deal, a total of €32.9m. The 27-year-old hit the headlines in March when he scored four goals in Roma's 5-1 win over city rivals S.S. Lazio. He then added to his reputation with two goals for Italy in their 2-1 win over England in last month's friendly.

Capello staying
Montella's extension comes a day after coach Fabio Capello also decided to prolong his stay at the Olimpico stadium. Capello, who led Roma to their first title in 18 years last season, will now be with Roma until June 2005.
